PEACE DAY

This award winning Graphic Design by Denise Dion-Scoyni features a peace sign with anthuriums, which represent the branches of government and "the heart of the Hawaiian citizens." The background numbers represent House Bill 345 introduced by Representative Jon Riki Karamatsu.  Governor Linda Lingle signed the bill into law as Act 23 that established Peace Day to be observed on September 21 in the State of Hawaii for the sake of promoting peace programs, improving international relations, and increasing educational awareness of peace.

Hawaii is the first state to officially recognize the International Day of Peace, established by a 2001 United Nations resolution, and is already celebrated by more than 200 countries worldwide.

  INSPIRING CREATIVITYDenise is passionate about arts education and devoted to her students. She believes that creativity is equal to intellect. Denise teaches: Elementary (K-6) Studio Art, Intermediate (7/8) Studio Art, VPA (9/10) Studio Art, AP (11/12) Drawing, AP (11/12) 2D Design, Mural Art (7-12) and Art History (12).During her six year tenure at Kula (www.kula.org ) Denise has developed an award winning Visual Art Program distinguihing Kula as an Arts Excellence school recognized by the Kennedy Center Alliance for Arts Education.LINK: http://hawaiiartsalliance.org/

Denise Dion Scoyni began her  lifelong creative journey with her first painting lesson at the age of eleven. After college, as a young adult she held various Art Director positions in the advertising industry for over a decade. Wanting to return to her fine art roots, Denise left the ad biz to live in Rome for a year to paint. Upon return Denise married her best friend and began her second career as a mother. She and her husband Michael along with their two daughters, moved to the island of Kaua'i in 1998 with the desire to leave behind the rat race and raise their children in a natural and safe environment. Denise's third career as an art teacher began six years ago. Throughout her lifetime, painting and illustrating have remained her creative constant.
